The Live feel
This is perhaps the most popular method of recording (and most
productive time wise). A 'live feel' is achieved
through the band being
recorded together. Each person's instrument is placed in a location where
their own sound is isolated from the others. The instruments are recorded
with one or more microphones. Typically the Drums are set up in
tracking room 2 (The drum booth),
the guitar and bass amps
in either the entrance area, tracking room 1 or the dead acoustic
space. Other spaces are also available.
The vocalist is given a stage
microphone and all the band members play and sing in the tracking rooms
with headphones providing the monitor mixes. Next, the vocals are recorded
again using top quality condenser microphones. Any other overdubs
such as solos are also added at this stage. This
achieves a very energetic and
vibrant feel.

A sliding door separates the drum sounds from the
other musicians, if required.
